Pink Inspiration at the Quilt Show

Last Saturday was the annual

"Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show"

Since we live very near Sisters and the weather was perfect for strolling about, we decided to attend the quilt show.

They close off the main road and you can walk right up the middle of the street to enjoy all the beauty!

There were lots of people and lots of quilts!

Lookie What I Got!!

I went to get the mail the other day and look what I found! It was my box of goodies from winning the drawing from "The Maisy Report" WoooHooooo!!! Benny was very interested in the box. I wonder if Maisy has kittys too??

Then Lucky realized we had a box on the floor. They LOVE mystery boxes!

Look at how nice Maisy had everything wrapped! She sent me a sweet little card with cherries on it because she knows I LOVE cherries just like she does.

I got to go shopping in her "Maisy's Market" Etsy shop. I picked out this cute little canister with polka dots. It goes perfect on my PINK shelf.

And just look at this sweet frosty pink rounded candy dish....I LOVE IT!! I have it next to an old family photo of my Granny Ruth when she was little. She is the blond curly top on the right. She was number 10 out of 11. She prayed for a baby brother and she got one. He is on an older sisters lap.

I put my little rounded red candy dish next to it so it would not be too lonely! I think I may have just started a new collection.....I will just tell hubby, it's all Maisy's fault, heehe!! I think now I need a white milk glass one with hobnails.

I also got these cute little trays and a vintage coffee tin. I have been wanting an old coffee tin for years. That Maisy has GREAT stuff in her shop!! Make sure you pop over there to browse around! Thank you Maisy, I LOVE all my new treasures, your the BEST!!

A Wonderful Shop: "Paddington Station"

A couple of weeks ago, we took a Spring Break trip down to Ashland, Oregon. While there, we were able to visit one of our most favorite shops of all time...Paddington Station, owned by Don and Pam Hammond. We discovered this shop on a previous visit to Ashland and had been looking forward to returning ever since. They have a great mix of all our favorite things.

This is Stefanie (on the left) and me. She works there and is super sweet and helpful!! She even kept the store open later when we got there just before it closed. We got into town late and didn't expect to find anything open. She has one of my "Dream" jobs...On her card, under her name it says....

Sunny Ashland, Oregon

Last weekend was the end of our two week Spring Break. This year we have had so much dental work done (think big bucks!) that we could not afford to take any big trips. We live about 5 hours away from Ashland, Oregon and it is a VERY beautiful drive this time of year. Ashland is famous for its Shakespeare Festival but has much more to offer. The weather was a perfect 75* and sunny (WooooHoooo!!). It is fun to walk the main street area and go thru TONS of unique shops, candy and ice cream stores, and restaurants. We ate on a balcony overlooking the creek at "Green Leaf". It was very tasty and the service was great. We had a pleasant young man as our server and I had been talking to my son before he came and set our food down, continuing my conversation with my SON, I said "Thanks, Babe" to which our handsome young server replied..."Your welcome", ....Heehe! The above photo is of my kids in front of the bronze sculpture of many famous Shakespeare characters. When we got to it, someone had hung a beautiful (real fresh flowers) hand made circlet in an outstretched hand. I had Arwen put it on as you can see below!



The drive over the pass was beautiful once we got over the top and was headed down into the valley. There were so many blooming trees...big pink and white clouds of blossoms, sigh......The daffodils were out in full force too. On our way down I-5 South from Eugene, we saw a sign that said, "Historic Oakland"..."Antiques". Hmmmm....should I, Yah-you betcha!! It was a very tiny town (about 1 block) with the original old buildings. They were mostly turned into antique shops, Darn....NOT!! We at lunch there at "Tolley's". It was in the old adjoining saloon and soda fountain. We sat in the soda fountain side. All the woodwork was amazing. The homemade french fries were heaven! After lunch, we strolled thru the shops. Most of them were way over priced to me.........I did find one fun shop filled to the rafters with great stuff and the sweet gal let me make an offer of about 40% off of what she was asking for a piece of enamelware I loved and she accepted...SCORE!!

Here is Arwen wearing the black leather "do-rag" she got from her Uncle John in Montana. As you can see she made a new friend at a shop in another historic little town off of I-5. Jacksonville is a beautiful spot to spend an afternoon browsing and eating. Make sure you get some gellato at Mama Mia's. They make their own, right there!
Tomorrow I will show you our most favorite shop in Ashland. It is called "Paddington Station" and I think I could just sell my house and go live there! So come back tomorrow and I will give you a peak inside at all the pretties!

Pixie Dust Cottage: Dreams really do come true!

First I want to thank everyone who left comments after my last Post......I am glad we share that dream ! Now, this post is about a dream that did come true! Ever since I was a little girl, my fraternal grama.....Granny Ruth and I talked about someday having a little shop together. She was a stubborn, fun, opinionated, exciting, creative woman. She became an artist in middle age and even had her own separate "Art Studio" where she went to paint and give lessons. She was a huge inspiration to me even though we never did get to have our little shop together. She passed away some years ago at 85. The dream of having my own little shop continued to grow over the years. We live in a quaint little town in Oregon. It has lots of shops that tourists seem to enjoy. Several years ago, after noticing a sad, little empty shop right on the main drag, I decided I just HAD to do my shop there. I did some research, and tracked down the owner in Hawaii. I was able to afford the rent and got on the ball! After lots of hard work, great helpers, mass buying, and prayers......Pixie Dust Cottage opened!! It was a children's boutique, candy store, etc......

The inside walls were painted periwinkle blue with yellow as the accent color. Everything looked so cheerful. I hauled furniture from my own home to use as display pieces. I found lovely companies to order from, made stuff, and redid second hand stuff.

My son was 11 at the time and having inherited my sweet tooth, he insisted we have a candy counter.

You don't know how hard it was to not eat candy the whole time we were working! I, of course, had all my favorites sitting right there on the counter in big jars. Liquorice pastels, (can eat a pound by myself) smooth Melty mints (heavenly) Swedish fish (do I need to say anything??) and Hot Tamales!! Frodo's friends would come in to buy their stash! Lots of samples were given out!

I had found some of the most adorable vintage baby clothes. We had sweet diaper bags and lots of Carter's. Stuffed animals were scattered throughout. We also carried the Disney Faeries and lots of other faerie themed items. I met soooo many wonderful people who loved my shop and gave me such nice complements. It was a lot of fun but was also a lot of work and meant a lot of time away from home. Unfortunately, the economy started to take a downer and I was just not making enough money to stay open for more than one tourist season and had to close. It was a hard decision to make since you always put so much extra money into an operation the first year. I was sad to close but realized I had been successful in making a dream come true. I also felt successful because people loved my shop and merchandise. My kids learned a lot that summer being shop keepers with me. We have wonderful memories...(and serious credit card bills, sigh...) But overall I feel it was definitely a positive experience. I am now heading toward opening up a Etsy shop. I still have stock I need to get moved and lots of ideas I want to make. Maybe someday I will have a little coffee cafe/books/antiques/vintage kitchen & baby/handmade stuff/organic produce shop. I can dream, Can't I ??!!
