New Orleans benefit @ Sisters Coffee

New Orleans style dinner

to help finance a mission trip there.

It was held at a favorite spot for locals,

This is my favorite guy...

A good Son is such a blessing,

although a teenage Son can be a challenge.

We have been spending more

quality time together.

I pulled him out of school at lunch time one day
last month. We went to see famous local naturalist,
Jim Anderson speak at the library.
Jesse made a new owl friend there.
Then we went crawdad hunting.

One weekend, just He and I hiked to
Alder Springs. He brought his
packable pole and caught
a couple little trout.

Earlier this week, He and I went to a benefit
carnival for his schools Sparrow Club.
He talked me into Halo Jumping.
A handsome, young National Guardsmen
hooked me up in the harness and then....

Up I went...

And down....

And Wayyy up.....
It was a lot of fun. Jesse was doing back flips too!

Then my almost 6' 125lb baby and I

decided to head to the Jousting Pit.

We put the helmets on, climbed in and

I proceeded to kick his arse!

Look out!!

Take that!!

And Mom is the winner!

It was actually a lot harder than it looks.

Jesse was a strong opponent.

My Guy.....

I am loving having this time before

he is off on his own.

Portland Pinks

Holly and I got to visit Portland this week!

We were on a school field trip.

We all ate lunch in a mall and hit some shops.

The Three Sisters

They are part of the Cascade Range

This is me hiking Alder Springs trail a few weeks ago.

I am training to climb Middle Sister in June!

I want to climb mountains!!

How about you??

Are you up for a 2 day excursion to summit "Hope"

sometime in mid June??

You hike in day one and set up base camp.

(Yes, you have to carry everything you need)

Then you get up at the crack of dawn on day two

and finish your way up to the summit!

Then you head back to base camp, pack up and hike back out.

If I can do it.....YOU can do it!!

This is Rich.

He is our guide.

Yeah, I know, he is hunky....

(His wife is the sweetest!)

He is really nice, sharp and motivating.

If you go with Rich, your butt will make it to the summit!

I am done wishing and dreaming.....

Cha~cha~ cha~ changes.......

Sometimes you just gotta move on.

I am feeling this in my life in a

BIG WAY

As my marriage has been coming to an end

and my main duty as Mama

is winding down...

I have been struggling with who I am

and what I want to do.

I will turn 47 this summer but

still feel like a young person on the inside.

I am finally getting used to

the older looking gal that stares

back at me in the mirror.

Over the past few years, I have fretted about

loosing my identity as a mom & wife,

being too old to start a new career,

having too many wrinkles for any man

to ever find me attractive,

and too afraid to burst

out of the shell

all this fear

locked me

in.

Our pastor gave a message that really hit home.....

"You are not who people say you are,

you are who God says you are."

WOW!

I am his chosen, his beloved, his bride, etc..

It was like a new light was turned on

inside my heart.

I don't have to be afraid! I have worth!

I visited a wonderful counselor who helped me

put everything in perspective.

My heart and soul has been healing.

New hope has filled my mind.

When I was growing up, all I ever really

wanted to be was a wife & mom.

I wanted to live on a farm, grow most

of our food, have lots of animals

and babies.

The wife and farm part never did work out as

I had envisioned, but I am so blessed to

have two WONDERFUL children!

They will be 16 & 18 this year.

I am so proud of them!

It seems kinda funny to be trying to figure out

what to do with my life, the same time they are

figuring out what to do with theirs.

What I would love to be is a

Dr. of Holistic Medicine.

Unfortunately, it would take 6 years

and thousands of dollars to do.

I kept looking for the right thing to appear.....

Out of the blue, the PERFECT thing

materialized!

Our local community college is offering for the

first time, a new course to become a certified

Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.

It will take one full school year and a chunk of cash,

but it is exactly what I was looking for.

I was also recently introduced to

the "nutriceuticals" industry.

It is forcasted to be growing enormously

over the next 10 years.

Change is good!!

I hope you all have had a wonderful Spring...

I have missed visiting around and plan

to do some catching up this week.

When Life Gives You Snow...

Make a Snowman!

We got about 4 inches of snow on
Sunday and this is how Jesse
spent the afternoon.

hot shower he grabbed a warm Lucky!

Stay off of the Roof!

This is how we spent our

Christmas~New Year's

Holiday Vacation

The Daddy fell off of our roof on Dec. 26th

Which was also Jesse's 15th birthday.

He was cleaning out the wood stove

chimney pipe and slipped.

He fell from about one and a half

stories high. He landed on his feet

and rolled forward.

both of his calcaneous (heel) bones

were smashed along with the little

joint that is just above it.

I called 911 and they took him away

in the ambulance.

We spent the next 3 days at the hospital.

We became regulars at the cafeteria.

His feet were so swollen they could not

do surgery that week.

We brought him home for 2 weeks

and then he was back in the hospital

for 4 more days to have

his feet rebuilt with permanent

plates and screws.

They took bone grafts from

both of his tibias.

It is a VERY painful process.

He can not put any pressure/weight

on his feet for three months.

We have had him home for 3 days now.

He really wanted a bath.

Good thing I have a nice

BIG tub!!

I got to pull the pain block

catheter wire/tubes out of the the

backs of his knees while he was soaking.

He didn't yell when I did that,

but he did yell when I ripped

all the tape off that was holding them down.

He almost passed out on me

twice after we got him

out of the tub.

I told him he had the

water too hot.

Nothing like having a big

naked guy in a wheel chair with

his eyes rolling back in his head!

He is now all safe and snug.

He has fresh ice packs on his feet and

his computer to keep him

busy.

I caught the cold my kids

had all week.

Lucky offers comfort when ever

I have a few spare minutes!

I have done some blog visiting when

I could, but have not had time to leave

many comments.

I will try to get back to commenting

as soon as I can.

Daddy (Travis) said he would

give me a trip to Hawaii

if we didn't kill each

other in the next 3 months.

I bought a new bikini top at

Target yesterday...

Pink Saturday : Favorite Christmas Decor

For the past 8 years or so, I have been collecting

vintage Shiny Brite glass balls.

Our Christmas tree has become one of

my most favorite Christmas

decor pieces.

I have focused on more pink and robin's egg blue

and some silver.

The above photo was last years tree...

We decided it was the most beautiful tree

we have ever had.

We get a Forest Service permit and

head up the mountain to hike around

till we find "The One".

That is what we are doing

THIS Saturday, heehe!

This was a couple of years ago.

One of my other favorite things is
Me and Holly's matching
snowflake footie pj's.
I got her a woman's size small
and me a medium.
She was only in the third grade so she had to roll
the waistband up a lot the first few years.
Now we are about the same size
but she still fits in hers.

I actually wear mine pretty often
when it is cold, but she saves hers for
Christmas Eve.
She is so warm blooded they are too warm for
her to sleep in much.

Memories of Christmas Past

This was my second Christmas.

1964

I was born in the summer so I was only

four months old my first Christmas.

I was still the only grandchild

As you can see by looking at my Mom in the red

I wouldn't be the only grandchild for long!

This is my Grama
(My Mom's Mom)
She passed away about 15 years ago
I still miss her!

By the next Christmas I had
sweet baby sister
Sally

We lost our precious Sally to
leukemia in 1970 at age 6
But I know we will be together again
some day!
This is me with Santa.
As you can tell, the jolly old elf
wasn't scary to me!

Twilight = Edward ....Need a Good Love Story??

I have a 16 year old daughter

We have done

Harry Potter

Lord of the Rings

Narnia

and have loved them all.

She wanted to watch Twilight when it

came out. I said,

"No Way...we do NOT do

Vampires in this house!!"

As a child, I had horrible reoccurring

vampire nightmares and have

NEVER

wanted anything to do with them.

When New Moon came out,

It looked kind of interesting and my sister

told me it was really a love story.

Now, I am a total sucker for a good

love story.

So we rented Twilight

LOVED IT

and we have been to see

New Moon 3 times

and now own Twilight.

This is Edward

He is a 103 year old virgin

(yes...he is a vampire)

He is old fashioned, romantic and chivalrous

I was besotted immediately!

This is him and Bella

His ONLY true LOVE

.......S*I*G*H......

Soooooo,

If you wonder what I was up to

during the Thanksgiving holiday

I was reading all four books

in the Twilight Saga.

The books are even better than

the movies.

If you prefer tall, dark and hunky

then Jacob is the werewolf for you.

If you are a twilight fan,

give a shout out

so I won't feel like I am the only

46 year old with a crush on a 103 year

old vampire that looks 25

Ok...He is supposed to be 17 but the actor

Rob Pattenson is stretching that a little!

a good love story!

It all started early....

Actually from the moment of birth.

She arrived in this world and they popped

Before long, she had graduated to

A Squeek of Inspiration!

Here is Holly

with our two ratty girls.

Bella is on the left and Sofie on the right.

We only had Sofie for 2 weeks before

she passed away from the respiratory

infection she and Bella both had

when we got them from Petsmart.

They were just babies and so cute and fun.

Holly made this using Sculpy and some of

Lucky's fur.

Lucky keeping an eye on Bella

Benny not getting too close to the cage
since Bella bit his nose.
Bella never bites unless you stick your
finger (or nose) between the
bars of her cage.
She has never bitten anyone who
opens her cage and takes her out.
She loves to climb on your shoulder and
tickle your neck!
She is lonely now though....
I just am not sure about buying another
one after loosing Sofie...

I bought it for her and hid it away for Christmas

Too bad he has NO website

There were lots of great booths

in high school right now.

This is one that hit home with me.

~Bakery Joy~

How can you stand in a bakery and not

feel warm and cozy.

Choosing a treat.... looking at

everything displayed. It can be a

very hard decision!!

I feel so sorry for the children who have

never had this kind of experience.

The bakery counter in the supermarket

is just NOT the same as going in

a little local bakery.

A lot of the espresso shops have a goodies

display. It is a little bit more like a bakery.

Have a dream

She does want to continue her art studies after

graduation with the hope of becoming a

Cinemagraphic Sculptor.

She wants to help create the creatures and costumes

they use in making movies like they

do at Weta Workshop.

But...in addition

We both love to bake.

One day....

We want to own an

Artsy Bakery-Espresso cafe

We want it to be a place where just walking in the

door makes you feel good. You can check your

troubles outside and leave the rest

of the world behind.

Besides having wonderful homemade treats,

it would be filled with a magical assortment

of artist's work displayed and

available for sale.

We want it to have an old world, Tolkien inspired,

Bag-end /Shire

Middle Earth atmosphere

It will seem like there are actually elves

baking in the kitchen.

As you finish brushing the last bit of crumbs

from your lap, you will blink and

wonder if that was a faerie

you just saw fly off with

part of someones

cinnamon

roll.

At this point....Holly is a sophomore in high school.

We have several more years to collect and perfect

our recipes. I have worked as a barrista

in the past, so I can whip up

magnificent mochas.

We actually hope to travel for a year after

she graduates. We want to visit

England and Scotland

For some reason it feels like home in my

heart there, and I have never even

been before!

We also want to travel around the U.S.A. in a RV,

visiting lots of festivals and taking art workshops.

We love to meet folks and share stories.

Right now we are just trying to figure

out how we will finance it all.

My wise Granny Ruth always said...

"The money will come"

And you know what.....

She was always right about that!

Nurse Mama is on the job!

This is how we started off our weekend.

I don't know if it was Swine flu, but she sure had

all the symptoms.

Lucky gave her lots of support.

He loves a warm, soft spot and she was toasty

with fever!

After several days of chicken soup,

Odwalla juice and rest...

She started to perk up a little!

She has been fighting this for
about 3 weeks now. I think the antibiotics are
helping since she ended up with a sinus infection too.
She still has a while to go till
she will be totally well, but she was
up for a ride to get a smoothie.
We decided to make a quick stroll thru the
Sisters Harvest Faire
They had
lots of fun booths.
I will share that tomorrow.

Prayers from Pink Pals

Look at those sweet pink cheeks....

Today they are pinker and her nose is very red.

I am afraid Holly has the, the, the....Swine Flu!

Fever, sore throat, headache, achey, blowing, coughing

UGH!

She had a bad cold two weeks ago...

She finally started to feel better

so I sent her back to school. She went for a week

and started to feel really bad again.

We figured it was a sinus infection and got her in

to the Dr.They put her on antibiotics

for her sinus infection but she just kept getting worse.

She had one episode yesterday

that almost had me calling 911....

she was coughing and could not get the mess

to move up out of her wind pipe

and she started to panic because she couldn't breathe.

Yikes!

I dosed her up good with guaifenesin which has

helped. She is on antibiotics for the sinus infection..

I don't believe it helps the flu much......
We would certainly appreciate your prayers

that she would recover soon and that

the rest of us won't get it.

Here is sick boy out in the

hail, slush, snow

Yes, he was home sick all week.

His Dad said he could go outside....

with NO shirt on.

He collected his bowl of frozen fun,

poured honey in it

and ate it!

It was 90 degrees only 10 days ago...
We drove in to Bend, Oregon about twenty miles way from us to do some grocery shopping.

They got almost three inches of snow and had the plows going, Sheesh!

Can you blame me for playing Christmas music

and wearing my footy snowflake jammies?

When I was a teenager, I LOVED Hello Kitty!

Do you have a Sanrio (Hello Kitty) store near you?

We don't have one in Central Oregon.

When we went over "The Hill"

(Cascade Mt. Range)

to "The Valley"

(Portland)
We Popped in to the

Washington Square Mall

They have a Sanrio and a Pottery Barn/PBKids

L*O*V*E it there!!

Jesse drew this for me when he was a wee lad.

He called it "Hiker Cat".

I guess he was about 4 when he did it.

It has always been my favorite!

My second son, Lucky being

Mr. Naughty Pants

He knows he is not supposed to be in the dryer!

My Sister Cherish had a cat named Ashley.

Ashley got in the dryer and it got turned on...

My Mom found her a short time later when she

realized the dryer sounded wrong.

Ashley's eyes were bugged out and she was beat up.

She recovered and became a much more loving cat.

Still can't figure that one out, but get really

freaked out about Lucky being left in there when

it gets turned on......I almost always check it,

turn it on and then stop and check it again......

He is my precious lamb!!

Here is Chef Holly in the kitchen whipping up her

famous Bananas Foster Crepes

We're talking serious YUM here!

That is homemade organic whipped cream in Birdie

(my kitchen aid)

Holly wanted to treat her Papa and Nana who were

here for a week from Arkansas.

They left this morning.

Nana bought Holly this "holly" apron she found

at a cute shop called "The Hen's Tooth"

in downtown Sisters.

It is Holly's first grown-up apron all her own!

Papa did a lunch show for my

Daycare Littles.

I think Samdog enjoyed it too.

The temp. was about 77* ....Perfect!!

Since we live so far from all our family,

we decided to go ahead and do

Thanksgiving Dinner while they were here.

My cousin, Royce, drove over from Portland

with his sweet wife, Bess to join us.

My Dad, Jack (aka~Papa) did potato duty for me!

He had lots of support

Turkey~Mashed Taters & Gravy
Stuffing~Corn~Green bean Casserole
Cranberry Sauce
Homemade Pumpkin Pie ala~Holly
YUM!!

While the boys played Mario Bros.
Holly & Bess did the dishes.
I was told to get out of the kitchen.
It was very strange to have someone else
cleaning up my kitchen....
I liked it, heehe!!

It has been such a blessing to have

My marriage is one of few kind words and it

Starting today, I am able to do more visiting.

My folks are still here from Arkansas,

but they leave tomorrow morning.

Benny doesn't like Pink!

Benny does NOT like his little top

He doesn't like that it is cute

He doesn't like that it is pink

But MOST of all......

He doesn't like that he can't get to

his stitches to rip them out!

Benny is a naughty boy.

He is a HOUSE cat who will dart

out the door if you leave it open....

Someone left it open....

Ben was found with a hole in his arm

After his little surgery, he would not leave

it alone. Nurse Darcy said put a top on him.

Hence...

He has actually been very good about

leaving the top on.

It is much sweeter than wearing one

of those plastic cone collars!!

He gets his stitches out Monday.

Maybe he learned his lesson!

Pink Kitchen Bliss!

Welcome to my new

PINK KITCHEN!

Let's start on the far left

and work our way around.

Here is the original white frig. I put the

cupcake I repainted on top. I also put my old mixer

up here since it has been retired. My scale is there too.

Cupcake anyone??

I guess I will not be getting new stainless appliances

after all. Since I am keeping the white appliances,

I decided to paint the bottom cupboards

my own custom mix I call

"Robins Egg Bliss"

I am so glad for the appliance fiasco....

(see below post)

I had planned on keeping the bottom cupboards white

and getting stainless steel appliances.

It was just too much with all the cupboards and appliances

being white.

When all the new appliances were sent back I had

second thoughts.....

My frig and range are really fine. I only need a dishwasher

that works.

Sooooo.....

Since I am so in love with my new

Kitchen Aid Mixer

I got with my birthday money...

I decided to paint the lower cupboards to match it.

I picked little glass tiles for the back splash that match.

I can't show you a full kitchen picture because

I haven't got all the cupboard doors painted yet.

Here is my beloved new mixer

I have named her "Birdie" since she is

Robins egg blue.

I could not believe my eyes when I walked in the

store and spotted her.

She was the color of my dreams.

I had never seen one like it before!!

The colors look great with the new

granite counter tops.

I love how the red accents look.

Red had been my favorite color for many years.

Now I think all these colors are my

favorite!

Just pretend like you don't notice the lower

door missing!

This is on the left side of the sink.

Holly didn't do the dishes yet so we will skip

over the actual sink.

Here is the other side of the sink.

I will get the rest of the painting done this weekend

and will post more shots of the whole

kitchen this next week.

I am very tired but really happy with

how it has turned out so far.

Cupcake anyone??

Lucky actually looks like he is ready for some cocoa instead, heehe!

Don't you dress your cat up sometimes too??

This was the end of some socks we cut off

and made into a ski hat and turtle neck for him.

This is how the cupcake started out....

I bought it at TJMax for $12.00

I did not like it the way it was, but....

I could see it had potential.

This is how it looks now!!

Some paint and glitter glue and it is ready

for my new PINK kitchen.

I had to do this post to cheer myself up....

I had purchased new stainless steel appliances.

The dishwasher and range hood arrived yesterday.

We installed the hood last night and put the old

Range in the garage this morning.

Then Hubby left for a 10 day hunting trip to Montana.

They delivered the frig and range...

First they hauled the old frig out to the garage.

Then they brought in the new one.

It did not fit in the hole.....

UGH!

They brought in the new range.

It did not work, they had delivered a broken one

SIGH......

Both were sent back.

I had to clean out the old frig in the garage, plug

it in and move all the cold stuff out there.

I think I will keep the range hood since it is already

installed and looks good, but I think I will return the

stainless dishwasher too and stick with the old white

appliances for now.

What a let down!!

I have to get everything put back together so

I can share how pretty it is for

PINK SATURDAY

And, Oh-Yeah.....

My folks are coming to visit next week.

They haven't been here for a few years....

Might be nice if I had a frig...

My Baby??

Jesse started High School this week, sniff sniff.

He is my baby.....

It seems like just yesterday he was a "little" guy.

Here he is with Daddy the summer before last.

Still a little guy!!

Here they are deep sea fishing for the first time.
It was Spring Break 2008
We went to the Florida Keys...He lives to fish.
Still a little guy??

I took this picture earlier this week..sob, sniff...
Just earlier this year he was shorter than me.
Daddy is about 5'10"or so.....
Do you think he would stop growing if I quit feeding him?
It would really help my budget since he eats
every 20 minutes.
He has grown about a foot in a year and a half
YIKES!
My baby brother is 6'3"
I guess there is no fighting it.
He will ALWAYS be my baby boy though!!

Also wanted to let you know we are plugging away on the kitchen/great room redo.

I have been doing the tile backsplash
in the kitchen this week. My hands are so dry from the mortar
but the tile is looking great! I hope to get to the grout
by tonight. We decided this week to put river rock
over our old wood stove surround too....
That is this weekends project.
More mortar and grout!
My parents come from
Arkansas to visit us in two weeks...
I gotta work FASTER!!

Birthday Bliss for Me!

46 years ago today this baby with the head of red hair was born

I was the first grand child born on both sides of my parents families

As a small child I was, of course, completely doted on!!

This was my first birthday....

My Mom made sure everything was perfect.

Just check out the table.

Matching china, table cloth and flowers.

Yum....I LIKE sweets!!

Check out my little baby shoes with

the bells on them, heehe!

Presents for me?? Yeay!!

Then I grew.....

And grew some more......

I had more birthdays....

Mom set more perfect tables.....

Back then, we would wear our perfect party dresses...

And our Mom's MADE perfect cakes!!

By 1970 the fancy parties were fading out.

I was 7 that year.

I had wanted that doll stroller SOOoooo bad!

The Perils of Picking the Perfect Pink

As most of you know,

we are redecorating our Great Room.

I picked out the perfect granite counter tops

after waiting for 11 years.

Of course, they had no sample for me to take home.

I spent my time in Home Depot, running between

the large granite sample they had in the

kitchen department and the paint department

trying to find the perfect wall color.

The green base cupboards will soon be white like the top ones!

I had decided on my pink and got the walls all painted before the installers arrived to put in the granite.

Doesn't it look good in the picture?!!

Here is a little sneak peak of the granite now installed.

The dark pink looked horrid with the granite, sigh...

The lighting in Home Depot is NOT the same

as the lighting in my kitchen.

Two days before my out of state company arrives,

Faerieworlds 2009

I think it is more fun than Disneyland!!

Isn't this Faerie Granny sweet!

It had to be around 100* both the days we went.
Holly and I bought parasols to help keep the sun off of us.
This is us on the 2nd day.
Holly designed and made my tiara/crown!

We saw LOTS of interesting characters

When she stood up, her hair went to the back of her knees!

If you are not familiar with Faerieworlds, it is a festival held several times a year. Usually in August and Jan. in Eugene, Oregon and also FaerieCon held in the North Eastern U. S. in November, I believe. You can learn all about it at their website here!

Does this guy look like Liam Neeson, or is it just me??

Everyone definitely had their own style, heehe!

Aren't these two so cute!!

They were really nice too, as was everyone we met.

This is Jesse, Holly and her best friend, Miss H. along with one of our

MOST FAVORITE artists, Brian Froud!!

He was the artist who did the characters in the movie

"Labyrinth"

Which starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.

He also has many wonderful fantasy art books out about faeries, goblins, etc.. He did the very amusing "Lady Cottington's" smashed faerie books.

He signed Holly's book and even drew her a little picture which is one of her most beloved things!

Me and my girlie....We had messed with our hair color using bleach

and misc. temperary color etc....

We will NOT be doing that this year!!

Eating on cushions, on the floor in the dining tent

More food...Jesse is 14 and has to eat every 20 minutes to keep up his strength!

to take an all day faerie sculpting class
from Brian, his wife Wendy and their son, Toby.
Toby was actually the baby "Toby" in the
"Labyrinth" movie!!
Wendy is also an artist, a fact we were not really aware of last year when we met Brian and saw Wendy there. She is a totally amazing artist and was a major creator of the "Star War's" character, Yoda!!
The class is for only 15 people and Holly, Miss H and I are 3 of them!

I am so glad you stopped by to see my little corner of creativity!

This is how it has been for a while and I am going to be giving it a little makeover in a month or so, but this is what it is for now.

The couch is the divider. It faces a coffee table and a big screen T.V.
The walls are actually a nice sage green. They look more robins egg than they really are.

It is my office also.
Aragorn (Lord of the Rings) keeps me company, sigh.....

That opening used to be my kitchen window before we did the additions.

Now I have NO windows in my kitchen.

That is why I had to have white cupboards.

I sculpted her with Fimo and a repurposed Barbie.

I shaved her hair off and put the Fimo right over all of her except her bendy arms.

It was really fun!

Gandalf was Holly's first fired clay sculpture.

Pink Inspiration at the Quilt Show

Last Saturday was the annual

"Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show"

Since we live very near Sisters and the weather was perfect for strolling about, we decided to attend the quilt show.

They close off the main road and you can walk right up the middle of the street to enjoy all the beauty!

Living Room Redo Update #2

OK, I have done everything that I can reach with my regular, trusty green ladder. Now comes the part I hate. Hubby brought in the telescoping, extra tall ladder so I can reach the really high parts. DD- Holly is going to help me by filling up my little roller so I don't have to go all the way down the ladder. I have the quilt taken down now and can really get down to business.

I get to paint around our track lights too, so fun!!

This was the response I got when I asked if anyone else wanted to help!!

I think Lucky has the right idea.....I am sure I will look like this by tomorrow, heehee!

Living Room Redo Update

Here is a little peak at my painting progress. Hubby and Son vetoed the pink living room idea

I have decided to go with a dusty robin's egg blue.

I really love how it is looking so far!

The color looks perfect on this little spot, but looks a lot bluer on some of the other walls. It just depends on how the light hits it. The granite counter top guy is coming today to measure for the kitchen, WhoooHoooo!

I can hardly wait till the painting is done and I can arrange all my treasures!

Painting is keeping me away from the computer...I will catch up with everyone by Monday.

Midnight with Harry Potter

I could have posted this yesterday, but I was a zombie!

We did the midnight showing of

"Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince".

This was posted on the door of the theater.

We bought our tickets a week early, hehe!

We had originally planned to dress up but that idea kinda fizzled. People just didn't seem to dress up this time.

It was a very party like atmosphere. Cutting in line was discouraged!!

(by me...."Hey- NO CUTTING IN LINE!!")

I ate my favorite Milk Duds with popcorn! I was sooo tired all day yesterday and I came down with the sinus flu bug going around.

I have today thru Sunday off work so I am trying to get my living room painted. I found the PERFECT color and am very excited.

This is a painting I did early in my art explorations. I am a third grader here....I wore my hair long then. My sister sent me an email about gal's who grew up in the 70's...I thought it was funny how much of it was true so I decided to share it with some comments I added. Feel free to copy it to use yourself if you like....just change the comments to fit you!

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.

I loved having the Dr. kit!

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.

Yeah, when I was very little.....then they had urethane wheels..Very Cool!

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)

Uhh...NO!

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie", not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill".

YES!! I LOVED my Dorthy Hamill and wore it thru middle school!!

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.

You owned a "Slip-n-Slide", on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once.

I so remember that!

Ummm, not in the face but on the arms......I loved those and am sure I must have drove my Mom crazy!

Actually it was my Holly Hobbie bedspread. Had lots of accessories too!

Yes....I had a leather purse with my name stamped on it from Mexico too!

Yeah, and I got it and it was a favorite for years along with my "Connect Four".

Oh, I LOVED my Sunshine Family....I made them everything...furniture, clothes, etc....My Mom didn't keep any of my toys and I finally found a nice Sunshine Family set on Ebay a few years ago and got them!!

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.

YES!! I so remember that feeling of taking it just up to the point where the swingset would start to tip over but not actually go all the way, hehe!

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.

Nope

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle).. You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.

My Granny had the Dr. Scholls...I never did, they were too hard for my boney feet!

Ummm, Yes...I loved that shirt and STILL want to be her!

Oh, Yes...His name was Ricky Haggard and it was heaven when they called out for "Couples" Skate! I was only 10 though, so holding hands to skate was as far as it got. (I woulda let him kiss me though, heehe!)

My richer cousins got this for Christmas one year and it was a HUGE deal!! We always played it at their house.

This one is so funny because I actually MET one of them....I was 15 and it was John Schneider who played "Bo Duke". I was wearing braces then, but he kissed me anyway, heehe! He was such a doll and is now a wonderful family oriented Christian man. My kids and I are now watching all the old "Dukes of Hazzard" shows on Netflix and on one recent episode, Bo says, "I've kissed every girl in Hazzard County", and I piped up and said, "And he kissed me too"! I thought it was pretty funny but my kids just think I am a dork!

Dearest Darling Deer Babies

Look who came for a visit today!

I created a berm between us and our neighbors when we did our addition. It helps block his driveway since our wall of living room windows looks out that way. I built a waterfall and hubby put in a small pond at the bottom. I usually shoo the deer out of here since they like to eat my garden.

When I saw these spotty babies there with their Mama, I just didn't have the heart to scare them away.

Mama meandered over to the clover patch in the front yard while the babies were happy to stay and frolic on the berm.

We seem to have late babies this year...

Aren't they just so cute when they still have their spots!

The Perfect Pink?

Well, it looks like we won't be moving after all. The market has killed the value of our lovely home and I would hate to sell it for way less than what we feel it is worth.

So, darn....

I guess I get to finish decorating it!!

My living room has been white, light sage green and currently yellow.

It started out as natural cedar wood planks.

It took lots of primer to cover the wood. It is a BIG room with HIGH ceilings. I have never been satisfied with any of the paint jobs. It gets lots of natural sun light and just seems to need a deeper paint shade. The trim is all creamy white which I love

I am trying to decide WHICH deep rose color???

Our kitchen is adjoined great room style so the paint colors need to go together. Our counters are old laminate and need to be replaced. I had painted the kitchen pink last fall and loved it....I had thought at the time we were going to put white tile on the counters...we didn't.....the pink looked awful with the laminate so I repainted the kitchen sagey green. It is OK.....not what I really want though...

So....

The kitchen gets the lighter pink shade and possibly that matching laminate chip shown above on the counters!

These are pretty pinks too...The small chip is from Lowe's and the larger chip is Glidden paint from our little local Ace Hardware store. I think I am leaning toward one of the top 2 chips.

This is one of 2 pillow covers I found at TJMaxx. It has just a hint of robin's egg blue which will be my accent color. I have had the HARDEST time finding just the right robin's egg blue. I wanted a nice aged, vintagey shade. I found it in this beautiful chip. "Hidden Spring" by Lowe's Biltmore Estate Collection by Olympic paints.

These are some fabric pieces I have to make pillows, etc...with.

I am going to use this fabric to back some book cases I have in the adjoining family room. I love the paint color in there. It is about the same sagey green as the large circles on the fabric. I do child care in that room and it needs to have more of a whimsical feel to it, but still needs to coordinate with the adjoining great room. The bookcases are currently yellow....I need to pick a new color to paint them too.

Harry Potter : Which Character Should I Be??

Yes, I admit it....I am a Harry Potter Fan!

I fought it for years...As a Christian, I believe it when God says we are not to mess with magic. Mediums mess with something they don't fully understand and you could be pulled in to an evil you are not equipped to fight off.

Well.....Yes!!

So why am I a Potter fan? Because I believe in good. I believe in magic....or power we don't understand. I personally don't believe the power for good needs a magic wand, I believe we all posses this power and can access it daily....It is in the choices we make and in the stands we take. I believe in Angels and demons and the spiritual war going on behind a veil most of us just can't see thru.

In Harry Potter...

JK Rowling slices thru that veil and hands our characters wands to fight evil. It is a classic good against evil story line that pulls from LOTS of faerie tale lore.

But...It is important as parents that we discuss the fact that you can mistakenly mess with spirits in the name of magic, wizardry and witchcraft that will pull you in to something evil and controlling. This is where the Potter controversy comes in between Christians. It is obvious that the Potter series is going to raise a lot of interest in wizardry and witchcraft in kids. Do they all have parents that will help them put it in the proper perspective?? It is a tough subject. My kids and I have talked it all over.....They know if you try to conjure up power, you might pull in spirits who will deceive you into being a pawn in their activities.....Kinda like Wormtail!

Parents...I realize you will look at me several ways....

1. As a nutcase who believes in something that doesn't exist

2. As a bad Christian who should blacklist Harry Potter

3. As a realistic Mom who knows my kids will learn about Potter anyway and prefers to help them put it all in the proper perspective...

Faerie tales have always dealt with good and evil, magic, mythical creatures etc..... Kids and adults alike have been fascinated by them. It is a very creative and artistic subject. They are to entertain us, make us think and teach us lessons.

The values you have instilled in you will dictate what lessons you bring away from

Harry Potter.

We have read all the books and own the movies...Our little town theater has a midnight showing during the premier night. It is traditional to dress up as a character. Last time, I was Mrs. Weasley. Holly was Tonks as envisioned in the book, with short spiky colored hair and Jesse was Harry. We had a blast.....one of the theater employees was dressed as Mr. Malfoy and looked really good!

The big Question is.....

Who do we dress up as this time???

OK, be truthful....am I the only one who thinks Snape is hot?? My kids crack up when I say that, heehe! I think it is his voice.... And probably the fact that I have seen Alan Rickman in other parts and already liked him!

I think I am going to have to go to once a month for Health Tip Tuesday...I am running out of tips to share!!

I did find a great one for this week.

It was in the Care2 Green Living section.

Our pets are family members here at our house.

In Central Oregon, we don't have fleas.

Our home is for sale and I hope to move to warmer farming country sometime soon. This will mean a return to FLEA country, YIKES!!

I HATE putting chemicals on my kitty babies. They hate flea collars.

Since Lucky and Benny are house kitties, they don't have to worry about fleas, but if I had outside cats I would wonder

What to do???

Well, I discovered this.....

Let’s face it. Fleas are the WORST, but applying pesticides to our pampered pooches doesn’t make us howl with excitement either. In an attempt to find non-toxic flea control remedies, Care2 staff stumbled upon this amazing technique that kills fleas fast without toxic chemicals. While citrus peel extract (d-limonene) works well for dogs, cats can’t tolerate it, so this is an especially great choice.
Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a powder comprised of microskeletons of deceased diatoms, which are a type of algae (both fresh water and sea water varieties occur). You sprinkle the powder on your pets and your carpets, and the fleas die from dehydration. As a foster care provider for hundreds of dogs, this stuff has been a miracle. You can use it on dogs, puppies, kittens, and cats.
How it works:When applied to the animal’s fur, DE scrubs on the hard exoskeletons of fleas. The tiny granules of silicon (think finely ground sand) work in the tiny holes of the flea’s respiratory system and in the joints of the fleas. Every time the flea moves or breathes, the silicon grinds away at the exoskeleton, eventually killing the flea through blocking/maiming the respiratory holes or by water loss, as the exoskeleton helps keep in the flea’s body water. It works the same way when applied to carpets instead of fur.How to use it:1) Wear a mask and put one on your pet. Even though it’s nontoxic, you don’t want to get it in your lungs.
2) Sprinkle the DE along your dry pet’s spine. Massage it along the body, working your way carefully to the extremities, avoiding the eyes.
3) Spread some diatomaceous earth on the carpets, brush it in and leave for about four days. Then vacuum it up to remove most of the fleas in the carpet.
4) Repeat the application frequently during an infestation. You should notice a decrease in fleas within a couple days.
NOTE: Make sure not to use the kind of DE used in swimming pools. Use natural diatomaceous earth; it is available in gardens supply centers, some health food stores, and from natural-pet catalogs.

Father's Day Reunion: Dad, this one is for you!

OK, Before anyone say's "Doesn't this Gal own any other tops...Yes, I do but I got this one earlier this year and it is my FAVORITE...So, I wear it when I do something special.....I just happen to blog everything special, so you keep seeing it, heehe!

It is me with my three cousins that live in Portland. They are my Uncle Dick and Aunt Joella's three boys..Grady, Royce and Aaron. I am the oldest. We had just some of the best times together growing up. Grady taught me how to spin in cowpies. You had to have cowboy boots on to do this and it was most fun if they were crusty on top and soft on the bottom.

My picnic basket collection. These are great because you can use them to store decor items you are not displaying at the time. I have one more, but it is up on a high shelf with a plant on it.

I like old Thermos's. I have several of the standard red plaid but love to find cool, unique graphics and unusual lids. Do you have any of these??

This cheerful bag was from the "Tarte" booth. Holly bought this precious mossy nest from "The King" of Tarte. He wrapped it up in paper and put it in the pink bag. Holly loves the bag almost as much as the nest!

The Farm Chicks Show Rocked!

So, if you were wondering if it was as fun as it looks like it was, yes...I mean YES!! it really was! Finding cool treasures was great, but meeting the wonderful people who created or discovered them was most definitely the BEST part. This is Farmer Julie, Me and Holly. Julie is such a gem...I loved visiting with her and her Mom. Her Mom had come over from Montana to hang out with her for the weekend. Wahoo for mother~daughter trips!! See all the pretty pottery in the booth behind us....I had a very difficult time picking one out since they were all so pretty!

This is Me and Deb Kennedy of "Retreat Design" aka Kennedy Design. She was just one of the nicest people EVER! Her booth was amazing. ... Perhaps the decoupaged grand piano - turned bar had something to do with it, ha! We did not buy anything, but she gave US a gift.

All wrapped up in a little box. We put the box in our bag and saved it for a surprise. Holly opened it while we were waiting for our dinner at Marie Calendar's.

It held a precious little handmade nest and dried rose petals. So sweet.....Holly adores it! She is in a nest, moss, mushroom, fairy stage right now and she claimed it as hers, heehe! Thank you Deb! Make sure you visit here: retreatdesign.blogspot.com You will not be disappointed!

Here is the "King of Tarte" and Holly. She had spotted a little mossy nest the day before and Cindy, "The Queen of Tarte", had told her she could have it for $6.00 By Sunday, Holly had decided she really NEEDED it and we went back for it. Thank goodness it was STILL there. I don't know why I love this photo so much, but I do.....Holly is my shy, quiet one away from the house and it was SOoo fun to see her out and about meeting folks!! She was so tickled when "The King" wrapped her nest in paper and put it in a pink bag with a lovely tag hanging by a silk ribbon. (Brilliant Cindy!!) I think she likes the bag as much as the nest. She said she will sit the bag on her dresser to remind her of our trip. Pop back to see said Pink bag on Pink Saturday, heehe!
